about the show

"Deadliest Catch" is a reality TV show on the Discovery channel that chronicles crab fishing seasons in the Bering Sea. It airs at 9 p.m. Tuesdays.

Dozens of fans of the Discovery channel show "Deadliest Catch" lined up Thursday for a chance to get an autograph from Capt. Keith Colburn.

Colburn, the captain of a crabbing vessel named "Wizard" on the show, was at the Battlecreek Liquor Outlet to sign autographs and promote safe boating.

"Remember to enjoy yourself at the end of the day," Colburn said. "Get the crew and the boat home safe."

The captain signed bottles and fliers, told stories, signed a flip-flop sandal and even spoke over the phone to a fan and friend of a person in line.

"Next time, come down," Colburn said, smiling.

Colburn touted the importance of wearing life vests and letting people know when they plan to return home from a boating trip.

Vic DeVoursney, who lives in Keizer, heard about the signing earlier in the week and decided to get the captain's autograph.

DeVoursney was the first in line at the two-hour event.

"I'm never first at anything," he said, adding that his whole family watches the show and that he has watched it since its first season.

He bought two bottles to have autographed — one for himself and one for his son.
