Man , Greenhorns on the Wizard are like Star Trek Red Shirts .....
It was wonerful meeting you recently on your stop in Phoenix, AZ. As I've said to someone else, Never would I of believed I'd meet a Capt. of an Alaskan Crab boat in the middle of the desert. Luck to you in the upcoming season. Calm waters, full pots!. I was with Mike Rowe when we met. LOL
On sunday the 14th my son on my behalf went to meet keith and Monte at the Walmart in Eugene Oregon, unfortunately I had to work that day and could not go myself. Anyhow he took a copy of my book that I wrote and asked Keith to autograph it, which he did. he also got a few pictures and some autgraphed photos. The reason I mention this is because he said Keith was one of the nicest guys he had ever met in person and I just wanted to thank him and his brother for simply being all around wonderful people. Lots and love!!!
It's been almost a year after I met Keith on the Henry's tour. Late in July 2011 things came full circle in our friendship after I got the opportunity to finally perform the song that I wrote for him, called "It's Not Magic, Just Hard Work" aboard the Wizard, as his guest. What a thrill it was to have him for an audience, and to have my wife Stella with me as Keith looked on as I sang and played my guitar. The lyrics are as relevant today as the day I wrote them, and you'll see his reaction throughout the video that was shot, which I've included in this message below:

VERSE ONE
He’s the one that leads them and is first generation.
An overly prepared, meticulous captain.
Sitting in his chair as he goes through the motions.
From inside the wheelhouse, to take on an ocean.
So much to prove, everything at stake.
Command of his vessel, few errors or mistakes.
Mouse and the Crew, they’ll get the job done.
Till the tanks are full, and he says “let’s get goin’”.
CHORUS
Twenty four seven for several weeks straight.
Deckhands and greenhorns, pots loaded with bait
Captain keeps em grindin’, and he knows it’s gotta hurt.
Tells em “It’s not magic, guys. just hard work.”
<MANDOLIN SOLO>
VERSE TWO
Another red sky as the sun begins risin’.
the moon sets quietly, just beyond the horizon.
But the skipper knows something; gotta pick up the pace.
Before the catch becomes deadly, and they all lose the race.
Forty foot seas, and the ice on deck’s building.
Gotta push the crew harder and try and keep things moving
Crab in them pots, and its there for a reason
Haul in the treasure and let’s wrap up the season
CHORUS
Twenty four seven for several weeks straight.
Deckhands and greenhorns, pots loaded with bait
Captain keeps em grindin’, and he knows it’s gotta hurt.
Tells em “It’s not magic, guys. just hard work.”
<GUITAR SOLO>
VERSE THREE
Keeping ahead of those superstitions,
That pushes his buttons toward a bad situation
Competing with skippers and fighting with brothers
Taking on trouble, and knows there’ll be others.
Finding a balance, walking the line
Keep everyone safe, without losing his mind
Takin’ them licks, learn all them lessons.
There’s much to be done, the work of the Captain.
CHORUS
Twenty four seven for several weeks straight.
Deckhands and greenhorns, pots loaded with bait
Captain keeps em grindin’, and he knows it’s gotta hurt.
Tells em “It’s not magic, guys. just hard work.”
Tells em “It’s not magic, guys. just hard work.”
Hi Captain and Crew,
I just stopped in to visit the site after meeting Captain Keith at dinner the other night. I want to say he is a very nice guy and we had a great time. I work in emergency medicine and while I have had many exeriences in rural areas far from hospitals, I can't imagine what all of you have experienced miles and hours away from help when needed all in the name of a great tasting crab! I admire your courage and wish you all the best and safest moments while your out there. Maybe the next time I am up there as I plan to return to see the locks I will catch a glimps of the Wizard too! Thanks again Captain Keith for an enjoyable dinner.

Hi Guys.
I enjoy every single show of Deadliest Catch. You're a very sympatic crew. Wish you all the best for next season.
Greetings from Switzerland
hey Capt. Keith, it was nice to see you and talk with you on Sat. at the 2 bit saloon in Ballard.(they raised a good portion of money for the family, but I wished you would of stayed in that tank long enough for me to hit that button.) Also thanks for the laugh, you made me laugh so hard at what you wrote on the back of my boy friends shirt, do you remember... ( Kick me A**hole) it made many of comment from other's it was the "gift" that kept on giving all night even at BB Mcgraws where we meet up with the rest of the guys. thank you again. it was awesome..
love ya Rae
Melissa,
Welcome aboard! I had to laugh at your "tongue tied" comment. I had that exact reaction when I met Mike Rowe! Actually, I wish I had just kept my mouth shut because the unintelligible drivel that was coming out was embarrassing me far more than if I had simply kept my big mouth shut! Glad you got a chance to meet the guys. :)
Again, welcome to the boards, and Cheers!

Hello Captain Keith and Captain Monte
Hugs from Northern Nevada! :) I met you guys this past weekend at the Silver Legacy Casino in Reno, NV and what an honor. I was so star-strucked and tongue tied (not typical of me). Thank you Keith for the kiss on the head and Monte for that awesome compliment you wrote on my autographed picture. I've been glowing every since :). Awesome to hear you all will be on season 7 of Deadliest Catch and always you and the whole crew will be in my prayers for a safe and productive season. Enjoy the rest of your summer
Melissa
I just wanted to tell you that your tribute to Capt. Phil Harris on last nights episode of Deadliest Catch touched me the most.
Just dropping a line from Indiana to thank you for all that you are trying to do for the gulf. Anything that can be done is greatly appreciated. And that saying of yours definately is true. It's not a magic, just hard work. I just wish more people adopted that philosophy. Enough rambling, thanks again for all you guys do.
Hey Keith we watch from summerside p.e.i. canada you and your crew are great keep up the good work and be safe
Found this program one night last year and to my luck it was a all night rerun. Guess what, stay up all that night and have continued to be a fan. I have never seen such hard work in my life. My husband and I say a prayer everytime we eat crab for all of you : )
If you ever need a cook, let me know I'm great and don't get sea sick!
My Husban & I met Keith today @ Walmart in Mt. Vernon!! txs keith for the picture and tee shirt! We hope we get to met you again for a green horn day!! here is the picture hope it showed up! :-)

Some of you captains who have trouble finding the best fishing grounds for crabs ask other captains for tips on good grounds and the rival captains refuse giving secrets out . Well just watch the DC reruns !!! plenty of inside info there !
