« Capt. Keith Goes to Washington | Main | Season 4 Deadliest Catch »

Deadliest Catch reality v. fishing reality

Every season that Deadliest Catch is on TV, the viewing audience has grown, and that is an incredibly good thing for promoting all fisheries in the United States. Before the docu-drama Catch, there was very little understanding outside the fishing community as to the level and amount of work that is required to bring the catch to the dock.

Understanding the hardships endured by fishers to harvest fish, and justifying the quality of the wild seafood products are passions that I really need to sit down and express.

Another important topic is the Catch show itself. Being a part of the show has allowed me the to meet genuine people around the country. This has been an amazing experience that I could have never foreseen. Unfortunately, not all of this growing audience has seen the show in a positive light. The naysayers have come out of the closet bringing their cynicism with them, and conspiracies abound surrounding the authenticity of the show.

It is to these topics, and many others that I will write when time allows. I hope that my readers will be patient. The schedule of a fisherman is hectic, and working to help Discovery promote the show has only increased the workload.

This entry in the Crabwizard Captain’s Log was intended to specifically alert fans of the F/V Wizard and her crew to the launch of our store. Once I sit down and start typing I tend to stray…

So here we have it. The Crabwizard Store is now officially open for business! This is a product of a multitude of requests for gear from the fans that I hope you will wear with pride. The store is solely for the fans, and I encourage everyone that navigates our store to send feed back on it’s functionality, and make recommendations on future items that you would be interested in. Take a look, and let me know what you think.

Thanks, Captain Keith

Next your going to tell us that the same thing happened years before when you, a buddy and his brother in law (call them call them Tom and Wayne to protect the innocent) were fishing and Tom s pole fell off his lap.

Hi Capt Colburn! May have noticed I am probably Jasons only stand true friend here, I know he was on the boat with issues but he was still on there. How about talkin to Lenny and Crosby, Soper, Art...seein about doing fan shirts or hats, pics ect for the ladies with crushes? Individual guys? Maybe a shirt that has the pic from Deadliest Catch with you all in the triangle formation? (I'd probably buy em all!!) Just a thought...Lisa

Cap'n Keith,

Hands down you are the most authoritiative captain on D.C., as reflected by your consistenly high numbers and kick ass crew. As a former US Navy sailor, I can appreciate the leadership that you give to your ship and your crew. Had you been one of my superior officers, I would have gladly served you. Thanks for the crabs you bring in and for the inspiring, entertaining television. Fair winds; following seas.

Cap'n Keith

I'm a big fan. The store is cool. The hat's are great, but we need some bigger views of the shirts. It is hard to tell what is on them.
Keep up the good work and good luck in the upcoming seasons.

Hey, I seen the episode where you sprung a leak in the tank feed pipe. I was just wondering if you guys ever discussed getting what we navy folk called jiffy clamps. They are a fast and effective way to repair a leaking pipe like that.

here is an addres for ya that goes into more depth.

Keep up the good work, and thank you for the great show.

Sup Capt. Keith,

Just wanted to give you some fan info,+ if u wanna read stuff about you.
If you wanna read about Deadliest Catch(Fanfiction) just go to fanfiction.net,check it out, most of the fics i find are about the Northwestern crew, but you're a fisher! You'll find something!! :D

I know you have maps and such, but, mainly, how do you find those giant crab pots? Is it luck,or the constant eyes being glued to paper?

I do think that you are the most serious about the job. As with Moi,if someone breaks a rule,or wastes precious crabbin' time, bye bye.
You give enough chances to know if they need to leave.

For some last questions, have you ever gotten lost at sea? And," How do you deal being up all night? If I ended up awake like you almost TWENTY FOR SEVEN,er,lets just say I would have the dang captains chair converted into a dang bed! I can see that,
"Hey guys,I'm going up to the wheelhouse."
5 secs later
SNORE ZZZZZ

Ugg,waking up gives me headaches.

:D Till next post!!

I am so glad to find this page. Was wondering where you all were. I like the way this page is laid out, it is factual and easy reading..and I really like watching the show.

My question is: Why are the boats not given more air time on the show. I have been waiting to ask someone this that would take me seriously. You guys are great, but it's the boat that gets you where the crab are.

Please don't take it wrong. I know many fans watching are not as interested in seeing more about the boats, but I find it very interesting. Like the history of each boat. I know the Hillstrands Time Bandit was built and they have owned it every since. Capt. Phil bought the Cornelia Marie from the captain who's wife was her namesake. What about the Wizard?

This may seem like an odd request from a woman in a land locked state like Tennessee, but I love boats, ships, and even little wooden canoes that have character. I like to know their history, and special details that make them unique. To me they have stories just like the brave men that sail on them.

Thank you for your time, and all the information that I found on this page. My prayers and best wishes will be with all of you who "go down to the sea in boats".

Well, I had overlooked the vessel tab...Found exactly what I was asking. Man this page is great... Now why don't the other captains have this information? Just made me fall in love with the Wizard.
